Voices of Donation
Donated tissue can dramatically improve the quality of life for recipients and even save lives. This is thanks to the generous gift of life given by thousands of donors each year. We hope that these stories of how tissue donation and transplantation have touched the lives of others will inspire you.
Jose Guadalupe Tijerina Vargas
Jouita Orzabal lost her son, Jose Guadalupe Tijerina Vargas, to a stroke on Oct. 12, 2013. Jouita said her son was outgoing, always tried to get people to laugh and had the nickname, "Lupe."
Jose was the oldest of five brothers. "He always wanted to bring his brothers together and called himself the father of his brothers," Jouita said.
Jouita said her family made the decision to donate because it would help another family. By donating, others could benefit from Jose’s gifts of organs and tissue.
Jouita said she knew that this is what Lupe would have wanted.
